Gauge: 15 sts/22 rows = 10 cm in stockinette stitch on 6.0 mm needle
Cast on 72 sts with the pink yarn (double) on 5 mm (U.S. 8) double-pointed needles. Divide the stitches evenly on four needles.
Rows 1 to 6: knit 2×2 rib (k2, p2) for the entire row.
Rows 7 to 17: knit in stockinette stitch.
Knit the scallop motif:
Row 18: *k3 with pink, k4 with gray, k2 with pink, repeat from *.
Row 19: *k2 with pink, k6 gray, k1 with pink, repeat from *.
Rows 20-22: *k1 with pink, k8 with gray, repeat from *.
Next 17 rows: knit in stockinette stitch with the gray yarn.
Begin decreases for the crown:
Row 40: *k10, k2tog, repeat from * =s ix decreases in total.
On the next rows continue decreasing evenly across the rows, six decreases on every row. When you have a suitably small amount of stitches left, break the yarn and draw through the remaining stitches and pull tight.
Make a pompon, attach it to the hat and weave in all the ends. Put your hat on and go out! (You could also spray the hat with water first and let it dry, but that’s optional.)
